I am a firm believer in lifelong learning. I get interested in new things easily. Knowing the versatility of the human brain, my attitude always is “anyone with perseverance can learn to do this”. Hence, this personal website is a mix of all things I enjoy to do!
“Sole ko tehä.” -Lapinmies
Notice: During the COVID-19 quarantine there has been more home time than ever. I have managed to complete many tasks that have been long coming. A personal website is one of the things that I have wanted to make and now I have finally started to put it together. There is a lot to do and it is still “under construction” as we used to say in the nineties for incomplete websites. Many of the sections are merely placeholders for content that is coming later.
Blog
Writings that do not fall into any specific category. Mostly dealing with matters of current or local interest. Sometimes written in Finnish (my native language).
Software
By profession, I am a software developer and CTO at Finwe Ltd. Here you’ll find content related to software development - especially on sensors and video.
About me
Who am I and where I come from. What skills I have learned and what are my ambitions professionally and generally in life.
Photography
I became interested in photography when my first child was born. She was moving too fast for camera phones of that time, so I got a DSLR. Later I became obsessed with 360-degree photography, mostly focusing on winter landscapes from Muonio, located in Finnish Lapland.
Videos
At work I have focused on video software since 2013. However, making videos myself is a much newer thing. It started in 2019 when I considered that 360-degree cameras are finally mature enough for occasional hobby use.
Music
Music is one of my lifelong hobbies. I self-thought myself to play piano at the age of 6. When I was at the 1st grade in the elementary school, some school visitors demoed a keyboard connected to a computer via MIDI. Mind blown, spent my youth composing music with a similar setup. Recently, I`ve been playing guitars.
Drawing
Drawing by hand using nothing but a sheet of paper and a pencil is a form of art that I find interesting. Sometimes I draw nothing for years, and then suddenly get attracted to it again. It is a great way to learn eye-hand coordination.
3D Scanning
At the age of 14 I was already monetizing my computer skills by scanning and proof-reading articles for a magazine. Later I became interested in 3D scanning by means of a camera and photogrammetry software. It is amazing how precise 3D models can be created using a camera and some clever math!
3D Modelling
To me, drawing by hand is a form of art - and drawing using a computer is great for designing functional, printable components. This skill is almost mandatory for making the most out of a 3D printer. I find it relaxing type of problem-solving - like filling a cross-words puzzle or sudoku.
3D Printing
Plastic is probably the most versatile material there is. Being able to print almost any imaginable form within a few hours at home - that is revolutionary for every creative mind. Getting a 3D printer has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. There is some learning curve, though.
Scale Models
One of the best toys that I got as a kid was a Märklin railway. I also put together quite a number of Revell airplanes. All in all, scale models are still fun to build, as I like to put attention to details. In my garage, I have the same Märklin railway and a long-term project to build a complete landscape for it.
Lego Technic
I try not to take myself too seriously. Playing a little every once in a while is fun and relaxing. The Lego Technic series is awesome. A few years back at work we were rushing to release a new product. I bought this Porsche and brought it to the office, to be built together as a prize for completing the product release.
E-Biking
I got tired in commuting by car, made some calculations, and bought an e-bike. One of the best decisions I have made. It is so relaxing to begin and end a working day with a 50-minute biking trip. I have 40 km per day to travel, so it took a while to get used to this pace. The first winter went OK, but working from home due to COVID-19 totally messed my routine. Biking on the nearby forest paths is great for refreshing my brain.
